Sinkhole near south end zone

I forgot Indiana has a football program. A sink hole in the end zone? Symbolism of some sort don’t you think? Well it’s not like one end zone ever gets used there. Just make the visiting team go the other way the whole game instead of switching directions. Actually, I don’t believe IU’s story. I think that’s where Kelvin Sampson is buried.

OT win sends Giants to Super Bowl

If Tynes had missed again, Coughlin may have committed the first in-game homicide since The Last Boy Scout. At least this Patriots-Giants matchup won’t have Bryant Gumbel calling the action. The good news for the Packers, this all but guarantees Favre will be back next season. However, the myth that he’s a great cold-weather quarterback is busted … at least this year. He was great in frigid temps when he was young, but old people freeze quicker. Someone knit him a shaw. I just hope Coughlin doesn’t have to lose his nose before the Super Bowl. He looked like he had a severe case of frost bite and Eli still looks perpetually confused even after a win.

As for the Pats-Bolts game, all I have to say is Norm should be fired for punting with less than 8 minutes to play, down two scores and on the Pats 36 yard line. Gutless. Another case of a coach trying to keep the score close rather than trying to win the game. My gambling tip of the week: run and grab the Giants and the Over before the New York money brings the spread down. The only thing that scares me is that with two weeks off, Belichick might get the Death Star operational by kickoff.

Report: McNabb says black QBs get more criticism

… because Charlie Frye, Joey Harrington, Rex Grossman and Chad Pennington all get a free pass from fans and the media. When will some athletes learn to think before they speak? If this is the excuse for his early season lackluster play and an 0-2 start, he needs a new one. I will concede that Philly fans are brutal, having famously booed Mike Schmidt AND Santa Claus (last time I checked both non-African Americans), but this clearly looks like Donovan launching the opening salvo in a war of words prior to his inevitable release from the Eagles this offseason.

Maybe the Browns AREN’T who we thought they were.

Honestly, of all the possible outcomes of yesterday’s game, a 51 to 45 shootout victory over the Bengals was not one I considered. What a difference a week makes. Now the question remains, who are the real Browns? Is the true offense the one we saw yesterday or the one that got punked by the Steelers last week. Time will tell. Either way, the defense is clearly a work in progress. I’ll enjoy this win but given the Browns history as a tease, I remain pessimistic about the season as a whole.
